Vision:
We are looking for an inspiring and dedicated worshipper to take up the role of Director of Music/Music Leader helping to lead and shape the musical worship of the Parish;
Main duties:
Work
closely with the Vicar, organist and the church’s Services
Group (a working group of the PCC) to develop a liturgically
sensitive musical programme for services throughout the year.
Coordinate and deliver the programme, in conjunction with the organist, choir, instrumental music group and others – ensuring a diverse and varied repertoire. The programme will be expected to include, for example; suitable hymns, choruses, psalms, anthems, organ voluntaries, Taize and other meditative music, youth and instrumental music group contributions etc.
Lead our small and enthusiastic robed choir (around 12 strong currently), including taking choir practice.
Actively recruit new choristers, including children and young people, ensuring they are supported in developing the skills and knowledge they need to fully participate.
Further develop the involvement of the small instrumental group in worship, particularly to include young people, as appropriate.
Alongside the youth group leader, support young people to develop and deliver an occasional youth-led and youth-focused services as well as supporting young people to contribute musically to other services.
Build links with other local churches to develop inter-church music opportunities.
In
consultation with the Services Group, purchase and account for
spending on relevant materials and resources.
Support, guide and direct any occasional musicians and other volunteers (such as stand-in organists) and organise rotas to cover any periods of sickness, holidays etc
Be
responsible for security of church buildings as and when required
(eg before/after rehearsals).
Requirements:
The Director of Music/Music leader must;
Occupational
requirement that the post holder(s) be a practicing Christian under
part 1 of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010.
Be
committed to delivering their role within a Christian context and to
be able to clearly articulate how they intend to do this.
Have
significant experience in leading music in worship (see Person
Specification below).
Provide
a current DBS certificate prior to commencing work.
Have experience of, and be confident to be able to, work in a non-directly managed setting.
Be enthusiastic, engaging and reliable.
To be sympathetic to the ethos and mission of St Mary’s Ringmer
This role would require a long term commitment, ideally with an initial term of 2 years. A probationary period of 6 months would apply.
This role would involve services during the Christmas and Easter church seasons, and other principal festivals eg patronal festival.
