Circle of Quiet

The Circle of Quiet meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7.30pm in the Lady Chapel for half an hour of silent prayer.

The Circle of Quiet is affiliated to the national network of Julian Meetings.

Julian Meetings are groups of people who meet regularly in order to grow in the practice of contemplative prayer in the Christian tradition. They are open to people of all denominations. The movement is named after the 14th century mystic Julian of Norwich, because it accords with her precept that, while it is right and proper to make request to God, nevertheless the highest form of prayer consist of simply waiting upon Him.

In this way of prayer the individual seeks to be aware of the presence of God and to remain silently attentively in that presence; to be completely open to god. Words are not only unnecessary; they may even get in the way, just as busy conversation may prevent two people from being aware of each other.
